CLIMATE
Mansfield and surrounding areas is fast becoming known as a prime producing area for cool climate wines. The climate is characterised by long, hot summer days with cool nights that provide an extended ripening period.
SOIL
The soil composition of the area around Mansfield is characterised by some 200mm of topsoil, with a sub-stratum of sandy red gravel.
THE VINES
The merlot and cabernet sauvignon vines are planted 350m above sea level. Fruit for the first vintage was hand harvested in 2000, as it has been since.
OUR TECHNIQUE
Winemaking techniques include controlled open fermentation, four weeks post-fermentation-maceration, and up to 9 months in a combination of new and older French and American oak. Wine production initially occurred off-site, but from the 2002 vintage the fruit has been processed on-site in our new estate winery.
